About the Center
Our Mission
Developing evidence-based models of non-pharmaceutical care that are rooted locally and informed internationally.
Since 2009, the College of Nursing at Tzu Chi University has been actively training nurse practitioners at the master’s level, and in 2021 joined the Ministry of Health and Welfare’s Publicly Funded Master’s Program for Nurse Practitioners, continuing to develop advanced nursing professionals who combine clinical practice with research. Nurse practitioners now work in both community and acute care settings, and are qualified to perform medical procedures under physician authorisation. Extending this expertise into research and clinical practice in non-pharmaceutical care makes it possible to build evidence-based care models that are rooted locally and informed internationally, and to showcase the strengths of Tzu Chi nursing education and research. The Center was therefore established with the following aims:
Aims of the Center
Strengthen nursing education and talent development
Using the Center as a platform that draws on faculty and research capacity from within and beyond the university, we train nurse practitioners and graduate students to develop and clinically apply non-pharmaceutical care, deepening the distinctiveness and impact of Tzu Chi nursing education.
Put Tzu Chi humanism and holistic care into practice
We develop non-pharmaceutical interventions that unite the Tzu Chi spirit of loving-kindness, compassion, joy and equanimity with evidence-based care, advancing cancer care, symptom management and health promotion for the health of body, mind and spirit.
Deepen interdisciplinary collaboration and clinical translation
Through university–hospital partnership, we build a two-way loop between research and patient needs, drawing on medicine, nutrition, psychology, physical therapy and medical imaging data analysis to ensure findings are quickly put into clinical practice.
Build research output and professional distinction
Focusing on symptom needs and health promotion as core research themes, we steadily build high-quality research that establishes the College of Nursing’s distinction in non-pharmaceutical care.
